Pema Chodron is a Buddhist nun who offers guidance with wisdom and humor. I recommend her books as well as these audio programs.
Andrew Weil is a physician who specializes in integrative medicine. He is well known for his work on eating well and aging well. These audio programs on breathing and meditation are highly recommended.
Martin Seligman is former president of the American Psychological Association and one of the fathers of the positive psychology movement. Learned Optimism is one of the best self-help books on overcoming depression I have ever heard of or seen. Also consider reading The Optimistic Child if you're interested in preventing depression in children.
Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life is a self-help workbook based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT is proving to be an extremely powerful form of therapy and this workbook offers relief from suffering and increased vitality. 7 Habits is a self-improvment classic and one of my favorites.
These books are published by the Gallup Organization and both are concerned with building more positive organizations. They are geared toward business, but the messages they offer are valuable in personal life as well. Now, Discover Your Strengths offers you a code to take an online assessment of your business strengths.
If you're interested in habit change, Changing for Good tells you how to get there. Based on research with thousands of people who changed habits for good, this book teaches you about the proven stages of change, and the change processes to practice at each stage. Eat, Drink and Be Healthy offers no-nonsense advice on weight control that makes sense of low-fat, low-carb and low-cal.
Two excellent self-help books. Take Time for Your Life is written by a successful personal coach. Taming Your Gremlin is written in simple, almost comic book form, but helps you achieve freedom from your "thought monsters" - if you know what I mean, you should read this book.
Jon Kabat-Zinn developed the groundbreaking and proven effective Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MSBR) program that is now offered worldwide. Wherever You Go, There You Are offers simple ideas on how to integrate mindfulness into everyday life. The meditation CDs are the same meditations offered in the MBSR program.
Two great books on stress reduction and living fully and consciously for women. Consciously Female was written by
Dr. Tracey Gaudet, head of the Duke University Center for Integrative Medicine.
Self-Nurture was written by Dr. Alice Domar of Harvard Medical School.
